USC shared some sad news on Friday regarding a member of their coaching staff.
Dave Nichol, who was recently hired to serve as the inside wide receivers coach and associate head coach for offense, died on Friday at the age of 45.
The news of Nichol’s death comes four days after they announced on March 21 that Nichols was stepping away from the program due to a medical matter.
Bruce Feldman reported that Nichols was battling cancer.
Nichol played wide receiver at Texas Tech. He later went into coaching at Texas Tech and junior colleges in Texas. He spent time at Arizona, East Carolina, Washington State, and Mississippi State prior to USC.
“We are heartbroken and devastated,” said USC football head coach Lincoln Riley. “Dave was such a tremendous human being and a fantastic football coach. He absolutely loved the game and constantly poured his heart and soul into his teams. He will be dearly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. We, as a program, look forward to playing and coaching for him as we move forward.”
Several of Nichol’s former programs shared their condolences.
