Sarkisian was not at the team’s practice later in the day. A separate report said he showed up “in no condition to work” Sunday.
Athletic director Pat Haden forced the troubled coach to take an indefinite leave of absence and installed Clay Helton as the interim head coach.
This is the second time that Sarkisian’s sobriety has become a major issue this year. The second-year Trojans head coach got into trouble for his unprofessional behavior at a team event before the season and was forced by Haden to apologize the next day. Sark also appeared to make light of his problems.
If Sarkisian indeed showed up to a meeting with his players not sober, that begs the question of whether or not he could possibly be put back in charge of the program. That is a terrible example to set for young men you are supposed to be leading.
