USF students pick bad color for homecoming game T-shirts
The University of South Florida is holding a homecoming week this week that will culminate with Saturday’s football game against East Carolina.
The Bulls’ colors are green and gold, but the students running the homecoming committee chose purple for the original homecoming shirts to match the “Once Upon a Homecoming” theme. While purple is an approved accent color for the school and fits well with the homecoming theme, there is one obvious problem with it: East Carolina’s primary color is purple.
About 1,200 purple shirts (at the cost of $5,600) were distributed before the color issue was raised. The student committee called an audible and ordered 1,000 green shirts at the cost of about $4,200 and began distributing those. They haven’t decided yet what to do with the extra purple shirts.
