West Virginia president: There will be college football
West Virginia’s president expressed extreme confidence in a college football season this fall.
E. Gordon Gee, who is a former Ohio State and Vanderbilt president, was a guest on WOWK’s “Opening West Virginia” Tuesday. Gee, who also serves on the College Football Playoff board, says there will be football in the fall.

“We are going to play football in the fall. I really do believe that, even if I have to suit up,” Gee joked. “We are going to do it based on what is safe, what is healthy for our fans, what is healthy for our student-athletes. I think this country needs to move from being shut down to have an ability to be able to get back into hope and opportunity, and certainly athletics provides great hope and great synergy to people.”
We have heard increased optimism from those involved that a season will take place. However, the college football season is likely to look different from what we’re used to, possibly with schools playing conference-only schedules.
