Charlie Kirk was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
Kirk was on the Utah Valley campus in Orem, Utah, to host a TPUSA event (Turning Point USA). Kirk is a conservative political commentator and activist who frequently travels to college campuses and hosts speaking events. His events are often met with controversy and sometimes increased security is needed to protect the areas.
On Wednesday, Kirk was sitting on a chair inside a pop-up tent and speaking to an assembled crowd when a loud noise rang out, sounding like a gun shot. The 31-year-old fell back and to his left after being shot, and grabbed at the right part of his neck.
Those who had gathered in attendance quickly began to disperse. You can see the reactions at 16:09 in this video from someone who had been broadcasting live from the event.
