49ers offer update on Brock Purdy’s shoulder injury
Brock Purdy suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder last week, and the San Francisco 49ers quarterback’s status for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers is now up in the air.
Purdy has been limited in practice over the last several days. Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan was noncommittal on Thursday when asked whether Purdy will suit up in Green Bay. General manager John Lynch then addressed Purdy’s status in an interview with KNBR Radio on Friday and also provided little clarity.
One thing Lynch did say is that Purdy underwent an MRI and the 49ers “feel good about where it’s at from that standpoint.”

Lynch also described the situation as “tenuous.” The GM said Brandon Allen will start if Purdy is unable to play on Sunday, with Josh Dobbs serving as the backup.
Purdy did not show any obvious sign of being hurt during San Francisco’s 20-17 loss to the Seahawks. He went 21/28 for 159 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the game. The 49ers fell to 5-5 with the loss.
It seems like Purdy is a true game-time decision for Sunday’s contest. While the Niners likely want to err on the side of caution, they cannot afford many more losses if they want to remain in playoff contention.
