Adrian Peterson was in court on Wednesday and was expected to plead not guilty in his felony child abuse case, but the plea has been delayed with prosecutors wanting the judge to recuse from hearing the case. While the scheduled arraignment didn’t last very long, there was still plenty of time for Peterson’s lawyer to sneak in a Bill Belichick joke.
Rusty Hardin, who has represented a number of high-profile clients like Roger Clemens, apparently thinks he’s a comedian.
“Instead of Cincinnati, we’re on to trial,” he told reporters, according to Boston.com.
Someone should probably remind Hardin that Peterson has been charged with felony child abuse. Whether the Minnesota Vikings running back is innocent or guilty, there’s really no appropriate time to crack jokes under such sensitive circumstances.
If you remember, Belichick said the phrase “we’re on to Cincinnati” about a half-dozen times in a row last week when reporters were peppering him with questions about getting blown out by the Kansas City Chiefs. Rex Ryan later poked fun at Belichick during one of his press conferences. Ryan got away with it because football is entertainment. Child abuse cases are not.
