AJ Green may have returned prematurely in Week 13 from a foot injury that knocked him out for a few games, and the star wide receiver is now officially out for the remainder of the season.
The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Wednesday that they have placed Green on injured reserve. He is expected to undergo surgery on his injured toe.
Green returned to action against the Denver Broncos after missing the previous three games, but he was carted off the field early when he suffered a non-contact injury to his right foot. A report after the game indicated he expects to undergo surgery and miss 3-4 months but be ready for the start of organized team activities next season.
Because of the injury, Green played in just nine games this season and caught 46 passes for 694 yards and six touchdowns. This season will mark just the second time in his eight-year career that Green has failed to eclipse the 1,000-yard receiving mark.
