Aldon Smith signs with Raiders

Aldon-Smith

Aldon Smith has agreed to a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders, according to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report.

Of course he has.

Smith, who is awaiting disciplinary action from the NFL in the wake of his latest arrest, is eligible to play at the moment. However, the league could decide to suspend him before Sunday to prevent the Raiders from possibly using him in their game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Smith was released by the San Francisco 49ers last month after he was arrested on charges of driving while under the influence, hit-and-run and vandalism. The 25-year-old has multiple DUI arrests on his record and also did something incredibly stupid at an airport last year. He was suspended for nine games last season because of his off-field troubles.

While there is little risk involved for the Raiders in signing Smith (aside from a potential public relations nightmare), it would not be a surprise if he is suspended for the entire 2015 season. Smith is a repeat offender of the NFL’s personal conduct policy. You would have to assume his latest suspension will be longer than nine games.
