If the reports are true, Smith’s career with the Niners is likely over. He has gotten himself into trouble off the field on numerous occasions for everything from a DUI arrest to being in possession of assault rifles. Smith also did something really dumb at an airport and is lucky he has even been able to play for the Niners at all last season.
There were also some rumors about Smith drinking at former teammate Ray McDonald’s house while he was on probation.
Smith, 25, is one of the best pass rushers in football. He obviously needs some serious help if he wants to continue his NFL career.
UPDATE: Smith denied that he was driving while under the influence, but he was later released by the 49ers.
