Aldon Smith detained at airport, allegedly yelled bomb in terminal
San Francisco 49ers premier pass rusher Aldon Smith was reportedly detained at Los Angeles International Airport Sunday after allegedly yelling “bomb” in a terminal.
Smith’s name has not yet been released, but an LAPD spokesman confirmed someone was arrested and being transported to booking. The LAPD issued this statement to the San Jose Mercury News about the incident. They say Smith was randomly selected for secondary screening and became upset.
“The suspect then became belligerent and uncooperative with the process and with the TSA agent, making a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb before proceeding towards the gate area.
“Los Angeles Airport Police made contact with him at the gate and he was positively identified as the person in question. Once again the male subject became uncooperative and he was detained and taken into custody by Airport Police and is currently being transported to LAPD for booking.”
An eyewitness told the San Jose Mercury News that Smith was at Gate 6 of Terminal 1 when confronted by several police, who then led him away from the Southwest gate.
Smith was described as “agitated” over the situation and supposedly said he was doing nothing wrong.
Smith took a leave of absence from the 49ers last season to enter rehab after a DUI where he had marijuana and pills in his car.
