Report sheds light on Colts’ plan for Anthony Richardson

Anthony Richardson ready to throw

Anthony Richardson has lost his starting job in Week 9 and potentially beyond, but that does not mean the Indianapolis Colts are completely giving up on him.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters on Wednesday that the team views Joe Flacco as their starting quarterback “going forward.” Many people interpreted that to mean Flacco will start over Richardson for the remainder of the season.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media said on Sunday that there is a “real chance” Flacco will not give the starting job back, barring an injury.

Rapoport also reported that the Colts have no plans to part ways with Richardson after the season. The team still believes in Richardson, and that was expressed when members of Indy’s brass met with the former No. 4 overall pick this week.

Richardson has made 10 starts across his two NFL seasons. He has completed just 44.4% of his passes this year and 50.2% overall.

The situation with Richardson and the Colts is similar to what we have seen unfold with Bryce Young in Carolina. The Panthers benched Young after Week 3, but the former Alabama star now has his job back because of an injury to Andy Dalton. Though, it seems like the Panthers have not ruled out trading Young.
