The final vacant head coaching position in the NFL is being filled.
The Arizona Cardinals plan to hire Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur as their new head coach. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the two sides are negotiating a five-year contract.
LaFleur, 38, is a Kyle Shanahan disciple who has been the Rams’ offensive coordinator since 2023. Though the Rams were ultimately bounced in the NFC Championship, he and Sean McVay created a dynamic offense that took the team to the brink of the Super Bowl.
LaFleur is also the brother of Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. They will be the second pair of brothers actively serving as NFL head coaches along with John and Jim Harbaugh.
The Cardinals new head coach will inherit some good offensive weapons, and will presumably be tasked with getting the most out of wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Arizona also has to sort out its quarterback situation, as the team appears set to move on from Kyler Murray.
The Cardinals were the last team with a head coaching vacancy. The Las Vegas Raiders had one too, but appear to have filled theirs earlier Sunday.
