Bears players believe Jimmy Clausen will ‘light it up’

Jimmy Clausen rings

Many believe Jimmy Clausen starting for the Chicago Bears on Sunday is a lost cause, but apparently that is not the feeling in the team’s locker room.

According to NFL Network’s Michael Silver, “Bears offensive players believe Clausen will ‘light it up,’ simply because he’ll run offense as prescribed.”

Head coach Marc Trestman’s offensive system is believed to be a good one, as it produced positive results with both Jay Cutler and Josh McCown at quarterback last season. Though Cutler has not played well this season — leading to his benching — the players apparently still have faith in the system.

If Clausen, who has thrown three touchdowns and nine interceptions during his NFL career, can be successful in the Bears’ offense, then many will be sold on Trestman’s system. The problem is so many spectators remember how poor Clausen looked during his rookie season for Carolina in 2010.

Though you may be inclined to laugh at this report, keep in mind that some Bears coaches liked what they saw of Clausen in spring practices.

There have also been two theories posed as the reason why Trestman is benching Cutler: 1) Trestman is trying to show he can win with anyone. 2) Cutler had played so poorly Trestman could no longer justify starting him.
