Bears veteran praises Roquan Smith for contract stance
Chicago Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan saw what rookie Roquan Smith did with his contract, and it’s fair to say he’s impressed.
Smith was late to camp after a lengthy dispute with the Bears over his rookie deal, and it’s fair to say that Trevathan isn’t upset about it. In fact, he thinks he could learn a thing or two from Smith during his next contract negotiation.
Bears LB Danny Trevathan is proud of Roquan Smith for standing up for what he thought was right and thinks more players are going to do the same moving forward bc of the new rules. Trevathan actually said on his next contract there will be some fine tuning he’s going to ask for.

Trevathan is referring to the new rules about leading with the helmet on hits, which are likely to cause some confusion, particularly in the early term. One of the sticking points in Smith’s negotiation was reportedly his insistence that he not lose guaranteed money if he’s suspended for an on-field play. Trevathan ran into such problems last season and is clearly concerned about more of them this year, so he totally gets Smith’s stance.
