Belief is Trent Baalke will not return as 49ers GM
San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke may be a victim of the expected turnover coming to the organization.
In response to a mailbag question, CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco stated that the belief is that Baalke, who has been the Niners’ GM since 2011, will not be retained for the 2017 season.
Maiocco says he has heard nothing definitive stating that Baalke will be out, he also hasn’t heard from anyone in the know who thinks he will be back.
It’s unclear what the 49ers would do if Baalke isn’t brought back. They could promote within the organization, or they could look for a young executive from another franchise.
These stories are similar to what we’ve heard before. Baalke could just be the first to go, with major changes possible in decision-making at the very top of the organization.
