CB Brent Grimes felt ‘disrespected’ by Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Brent Grimes went on his wife’s podcast and aired a list of grievances with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from this season, sharing why he felt “disrespected” by the team.

Grimes signed with the Bucs in March on a one-year, $7 million deal that included $1 million in incentives. He missed the first two games due to injury but played in Week 3 against the Steelers. He played 13 games in the season.

Grimes said on wife Miko’s podcast that he became disillusioned because he was being asked to shadow top wide receivers yet wasn’t being paid like the kind of top cornerbacks who get asked to do that.

“That’s not right,” Grimes said, via the Tampa Bay Times. “That’s disrespectful and it (expletive) up my whole vibe for the whole year, to be completely honest. Because it’s just disrespectful. I just felt disrespected.”

Grimes said he was benched at halftime of the Bears game because he was on his phone at halftime. He said in his defense that everyone’s on their phone these days and it shouldn’t be an issue for the coaches.

The 35-year-old cornerback was upset by the coaches only playing man-to-man defense and not considering playing zone coverages. He also says he did not like the run techniques they were taught.

Based on the way he sounded, Grimes did not really want to be out there this season, which makes him potentially questionable to continue playing next season. The real surprise is that his wife has avoided making headlines.
