Report: Broncos, Browns, Jets trying to trade for Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick hat backwards

The Broncos have turned their attention toward trying to trade for Colin Kaepernick now that Brock Osweiler has signed with the Texans, but Denver is not the only team that is trying to acquire the 49ers quarterback.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports that the Browns and Jets have also contacted the Niners about Kaepernick. San Francisco has reportedly told the interested teams that it will hold onto Kaepernick if the right offer — presumably a second- or third-round draft pick — does not present itself. The Jets are not believed to have made a formal offer yet.

Assuming all three teams are willing to offer a draft choice in the same round, the Broncos would be at a disadvantage since they pick later. Cleveland’s second-round pick is the 32nd overall pick in the draft, which seems like a steep price to pay for Kaepernick.

A report from earlier this offseason claimed Kaepernick wants to play for the Jets, though New York is still working to re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick. The two sides are said to be far apart.

There were times during the 2015 season when it seemed like Kaepernick’s career could be falling apart. Now that he has reportedly told the Niners he wants to be traded, it’s starting to look like he’ll get another shot to prove himself as an NFL starter.
