Report: Browns have ‘no plans’ to promote Paul DePodesta
The Cleveland Browns appear likely to hire a new football operations head from outside the organization.
Despite rumors about a possible promotion, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reported Tuesday that the Browns have “no plans” to promote Paul DePodesta to the general manager role, and will plan to hire a new GM from outside the organization.
#Browns have no plans to make Chief Strategy Officer Paul DePodesta head of football operations, a source confirmed, adding they plan to hire a new head coach and a new GM.

It seems likely DePodesta stays on and has some say in what happens from here, but there’s a big difference between that and the football operations power he was rumored to be in line for. The organization would be wise to hang on to some consistency due to the frequent and widespread changes the organization makes, which could be where DePodesta comes in. He apparently won’t be the GM, though, whether he wants it or not.
