Bruce Arians may consider retirement after season

Bruce Arians has had multiple health scares in recent years, and those incidents could have him thinking about calling it quits on his coaching career.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported on Sunday that some people familiar with Arians’ situation expect the 64-year-old to contemplate retirement after the season. Arians considered retiring a few years back and has done a fantastic job with the Cardinals since, but he has expressed concern in the past about his health.

A Cardinals official told La Canfora that there is no truth to any rumor about Arians contemplating retirement. However, coaches who know Arians believe family members will encourage him to call it a career.

Arians was hospitalized with chest pains last month and later released after receiving good news from doctors. He had a similar health scare during training camp and is also a cancer survivor.

The Cardinals were expected to contend for a championship this season, but they are having a down year and are a long shot to make the playoffs. Larry Fitzgerald recently hinted that some of the players wonder if they have contributed to Arians’ health problems.
