The Buffalo Bills are sticking with an internal hire as their new head coach.

The Bills are promoting offensive coordinator Joe Brady to their head coaching position, according to multiple reports. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that he is signing a 5-year deal.

After boldly firing Sean McDermott following their exit from the AFC Divisional round, the Bills are opting for a rather conservative hire in Brady. The 36-year-old has been Buffalo’s offensive coordinator since 2023, though he has won plenty of plaudits for his work with Josh Allen. We already know Allen is a big fan of his, and that likely made a difference as well.

Brady has been eyed as a potential head coach for other teams as well, including during this hiring cycle. He will immediately face very high expectations, as his predecessor was fired despite making the playoffs eight times in nine seasons at the helm.

Still, Brady feels like a safe option after the bold decision to fire McDermott. The team definitely looked into some unorthodox options, but are evidently betting on Brady’s offensive acumen and a level of continuity to keep the organization moving in the right direction.
