Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has fully bought into his team’s rivalry with the Green Bay Packers.

Williams was in New York City over the weekend to attend Fanatics Fest. The 23-year-old was part of a Q&A panel that opened the floor to questions from fans.

When Williams was asked about his negative experiences with fans during his rookie season, one team and its fan base immediately came to mind: the Green Bay Packers. He recalled an unsavory encounter when he tried to execute a “Lambeau Leap” during the Bears-Packers season finale in January.

“They suck,” Williams said of Packers fans. “After the game, after we won at Lambeau — 1-0 at Lambeau — we tried to do the Lambeau Leap, tried to jump into the crowd where our fans were. [Packers fans] just started throwing everything at you, pushing you off. The Lambeau Leap, it’s a real leap. It’s not a little baby jump. You actually have to high jump. And they’re pushing you, pushing your face.”

Williams shouldn’t be all that surprised that Green Bay supporters weren’t receptive to his Lambeau Leap. Packers fans are notorious for being nasty to opposing players who try the iconic leap into the stands. Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had a drink poured on him when he did it two seasons ago. Even a former Packers player was denied the leap after scoring a touchdown in a rival uniform.

Williams went 21/29 for 148 yards and a touchdown in a Week 17 win over the Packers at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. His TD connection with DJ Moore in the fourth quarter of the contest, when Williams went for the Lambeau Leap, proved to be the play that decided the game.
