Watch: Bucs CB Carlton Davis ejected for helmet-to-helmet hit
The NFL has taken a stronger stance against helmet-to-helmet hits this season, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Carlton Davis III learned that the hard way on Sunday.
During the first half of his team’s game against the New Orleans Saints, Davis was ejected for a vicious head shot on tight end Jared Cook.

In addition to leading with his helmet, Davis appeared to leave his feet and launch himself while making the hit. That type of play is almost always going to result in a 15-yard penalty and an ejection now. Fortunately, Cook was not injured and later scored a touchdown on the drive.
The hit from Davis was not unlike the one we saw from Vontaze Burfict a week ago, and Burfict has been suspended for the rest of the season. He’s a repeat, offender, however, so a fine is more likely for Davis.
