Chip Kelly sick of the Mark Sanchez questions
Although the media would love to see Chip Kelly abandon all plans, admit defeat, pack up his bags, head back to college, and pull the plug on Sam Bradford because — gasp! — his Philadelphia Eagles are 0-2 to start the season, he is not ready to do so.
Media outlets that thrive on chaos and controversies tried to stir something up this week by asking questions to Kelly about the possibility of starting backup quarterback Mark Sanchez. For New York reporters, it would be something of a homecoming as Sanchez was the Jets’ starter for four seasons. But Kelly wasn’t having any of the chatter.
Via the New York Daily News, here’s how an exchange with reporters went:
Asked if he gave any thought to starting Sanchez this week against the Jets after Sam Bradford’s meltdown last week, Kelly said, “No.”
When asked later why not he responded, “Excuse me? Because Sam Bradford’s our starting quarterback.”
Is there any chance Sanchez could play?
“Are you Mark’s agent?” Kelly quipped back.
Sorry, deep-fishing media, but Kelly isn’t about to make a switch to Sanchez yet, not after he made a huge move to bring in Bradford and talked him up heavily. Kelly has also made it clear that he is still confident in Bradford, even if the rest of us feel differently.
