Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud is coming off an underwhelming season, but that only has some teams interested in trying to get him for good value.
NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay said on his “The McShay Show” podcast that other teams may target Stroud in a trade over the next few weeks. Other teams believe they could bring Stroud back to the heights he reached as a rookie with the Texans.
“Stroud hasn’t been the guy the last two years in Houston that he was in his rookie year,” McShay noted, via NFL reporter Arye Pulli. “Some [teams] are looking at that and saying, ‘can we get that rookie year out of Stroud here?'”
There is no guarantee that the Texans would be willing to engage in trade talks involving Stroud, even if other teams are interested. However, they are getting to the point where they have to decide whether to give Stroud a contract extension or not. That was a no-brainer after his rookie year, but might be a more complicated decision now.
Stroud threw for 4,108 yards with 23 touchdowns and five interceptions as a rookie, but has failed to match those numbers in two seasons since. At this point, there are more questions than answers about his future, especially after his brutal playoff performance against the Houston Texans.
