Colin Kaepernick: I know I crossed the goal line

Colin Kaepernick fumble

The San Francisco 49ers were defeated by the St. Louis Rams on Sunday after Colin Kaepernick lost a fumble on a quarterback sneak attempt with 10 seconds left. The Niners were trailing 13-10 at the time and had 3rd and goal from the 1-yard line.

The fumble was challenged by the replay official, but the ruling on the field stood as called. It looked to us like Kaepernick never had the ball on the exchange, though he insists his team was screwed by the officials.

“I know I crossed the line,” Kaepernick told reporters, via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com. “Yeah, I did bobble the snap, but regardless…”

When asked how he was so certain that he broke the plane through the massive pile of bodies, Kaepernick simply said he was “looking at the end zone.” Still, he took some of the blame for what was a miserable game offensively.

“That’s why I’m here, to make plays regardless of the situation,” he said. “I have to be better back there. I’m here to make plays. I can make people miss. That’s part of my job.”

Kaepernick was sacked a whopping eight times. As LB mentioned on Sunday, a pass probably would have been a safer play call. If nothing was there, Kaepernick could have thrown the ball out of the back of the end zone and the Niners could have kicked the field goal to send the game to overtime. Jim Harbaugh deserves to be second-guessed.
