Colts promote Chad Kelly to active roster amid Jacoby Brissett knee injury

Chad Kelly

The Indianapolis Colts made a change to their roster ahead of Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins due to Jacoby Brissett’s knee injury.

Brissett is dealing with a knee injury sustained in Week 9, which has left him unable to play in Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. The Colts on Saturday declared Brissett out for the game and promoted Chad Kelly to their active roster.

Brian Hoyer is Indianapolis’ backup and subbed in for Brissett last week in a loss to Pittsburgh. If Brissett cannot play, Hoyer would start and Kelly would be the backup.

The “Mr. Irrelevant” of the 2017 draft, Kelly signed with the Colts this offseason and was suspended two games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. He was waived by the Colts after they got Hoyer in September but was added to the practice squad.

Kelly, who played college ball at Ole Miss, has not thrown a pass in the NFL yet, though he has posted strong preseason statistics.
