Cowboys TE Rico Gathers arrested for marijuana possession
Rico Gathers is not making the best impressions on cut-down day for the Dallas Cowboys.
The tight end was arrested and charged with marijuana possession on Friday night. He had fewer than two ounces of marijuana on him according to a report and posted bond on Saturday.
Gathers, a 2016 6th-round pick out of Baylor, was competing at tight end for the Cowboys but lagging on the depth chart. The former college basketball player had two catches for 12 yards in the Cowboys’ fourth preseason game.
Cowboys VP Stephen Jones previously indicated that Gathers had a good shot at making the roster.
Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said on @1053thefan that the team will cut about 20 players today and the rest tomorrow. When specifically asked about Rico Gathers, Jones said the former Baylor basketball star has “got a good shot” of making the roster

It’s unclear how this arrest might affect his status.
