Report: Cowboys will not pursue Johnny Manziel
The Dallas Cowboys have no interest in Johnny Manziel in the wake of his latest off-field incident, according to a report.
Manziel has been linked to the Cowboys since it became clear that his time with the Cleveland Browns is coming to an end, and many felt that he would be a perfect fit for Jerry Jones and America’s team. However, Mike Leslie of WFAA in Dallas is reporting that a “high-ranking Cowboys source” says there is no interest.
But a high-ranking Cowboys source says that Dallas is out on Manziel after the latest reports involving the quarterback and domestic violence allegations.
The same source had said earlier in the week that he doubted Dallas would pursue Manziel once he became available, as the Browns are expected to release the second-year player in March. But once the new allegations came to light, the source says Dallas will not pursue Manziel in free agency.
Jones was so enamored with Manziel at the NFL Draft two years ago that he almost handed in a card with Manziel’s name on it but was overruled. The same football people who chose not to draft the former Texas A&M star remain in their current roles with the Cowboys.
Manziel was involved in an incident with his ex-girlfriend over the weekend, and the allegations she made against him are disturbing. You can read some of the details here.
The Browns are expected to release Manziel when the new league year begins and the salary cap increases in March. On Friday, Manziel’s agent released a statement announcing he has parted ways with the quarterback.
