Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell does not believe the play call was the only issue for his team at the end of Super Bowl XLIX. According to Bevell, wide receiver Ricardo Lockette could have done more to prevent an interception.
Rather than handing the ball to Marshawn Lynch to punch it in from less than a yard out, the Seahawks called a slant. Carroll took the blame for the puzzling call, though Bevell basically admitted it was his decision. He also threw Lockette under the bus multiple times.
Darrell Bevell owns that play call, but also has twice noted that Ricardo Lockette could have fought harder for the ball.

Bevell noted more than once that Lockette “could have been stronger through the ball.” I didn’t see it that way. New Enland Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler made a phenomenal play on the ball. It was a bang-bang play.
Everyone thought the ball was going to Lynch, which is why Bevell thought he would catch New England sleeping. He didn’t fool Butler. That isn’t Lockette’s fault.
