San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has an unexpected defender in the form of NFL legend Michael Irvin.
In a recent appearance with streamer N3ON, Irvin jumped to York’s defense after the 49ers owner was arrested after attempting to pay $140 for sex at an Ohio trailer park. Irvin thinks that York was not doing anything that other people don’t do, and questioned why York had to be publicly embarrassed over the incident.
“He got divorced five or six months ago so I’m like ‘Man, come on. Is that really a crime?’ Let that man go. Leave it alone,” Irvin said. “Imagine if you’re going through a divorce and some pretty girl comes up to you. You don’t know. I don’t know how that happened. I don’t know that we need to know all of that.
“Everybody’s paying for it. You take her out to eat, you’re paying for it. Everybody’s paying for it. So what are we doing? Why we got to embarrass this man for $140? People think ‘You’re a billionaire, why didn’t you go to high end places?’ The high end places get you in trouble all the time.”

York was caught up in a sting operation when he was arrested, and body cam footage showed how befuddled he was when police caught him. He was initially charged with engaging in prostitution, but ultimately pled no contest to the lesser charge of disorderly conduct as part of a plea deal.
The NFL is conducting its own investigation into York’s arrest. It is highly unlikely that they will be as indifferent as Irvin is about the situation.
