A top sports media insider has revealed what the odds are of Tony Romo calling another game for CBS following his OWI arrest.
Sports business insider John Ourand of Puck said on the “Powers That Be” podcast that, based on CBS’ public statements, he expects the network to try to negotiate Romo’s exit amicably. However, he added that no matter what approach is, Ourand believes it is highly likely that Romo has called his last game for CBS.
“I think it’s highly unlikely, and by highly unlikely, [I mean] it’s 95 percent that he’s not back at CBS,” Ourand said, via Brendon Kleen of Awful Announcing.
This does seem to be the conventional wisdom at this point. While Romo himself has referenced an eventual return to CBS, the network has discussed concerns about Romo hurting their image. There have also been suggestions that CBS had already soured on Romo’s work, and this could serve as an opportunity to get out of a contract they regret giving him.
Romo has been with CBS since 2017. His position has been in doubt since July 24, when reports surfaced that the he was arrested in Milwaukee, Wisc., for OWI. Romo reportedly failed to take a sobriety test at first, and when he finally did, he “performed poorly” and was arrested and booked.
