Davante Adams trade to the Jets is ‘inevitable’?

The New York Jets have been viewed as the most likely suitor for Davante Adams since trade rumors began circulating last year, and one reporter believes a reunion between the star wide receiver and Aaron Rodgers is “inevitable.”

SNY’s Connor Hughes reported on Thursday that the Jets and Las Vegas Raiders have been discussing a trade for Adams since last week. The feeling among NFL teams is that Adams will eventually wind up in New York. Hughes noted that no deal is imminent but “it does feel inevitable.”

There have been numerous reports that Adams wants to play for the Jets. That is not a surprise, as he and Rodgers were teammates on the Green Bay Packers for eight seasons from 2014-2021. Adams made the Pro Bowl for five consecutive years during that span, and he and Rodgers were one of the best quarterback/wide receiver duos in the NFL.

Adams forced a trade from Green Bay in large part because he wanted to play with Derek Carr, who was his teammate in college at Fresno State. The Raiders moved on from Carr after the 2022 season, and Adams has since expressed some regret over the way he handled the situation.

The Raiders are said to be seeking a high draft pick plus additional compensation in any potential trade for Adams. They have no reason to give the Jets or any other team a discount. Though, Adams will likely have to agree to some sort of contract restructure to help facilitate a deal, so he does have some leverage.

If Adams does not land in New York, there is at least one other team he reportedly has high on his wish list.
