Report: David Johnson holding out from minicamp in search of new contract
Most of the players who end up holding out from minicamp or training camp are searching for a new contract while still playing under their rookie deal, and it sounds like that is the case for Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson.
Johnson, who is set to make a base salary of $1.8 million in the final year of his rookie contract this season, was not present for the start of minicamp on Tuesday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that he has been in discussions with the Cardinals about a new contract.
Cardinals’ RB David Johnson is a holdout for this week’s mandatory minicamp that begins today, per league sources.
The two sides have been in discussions regarding a new contract and are hopeful a new deal will be reached before the start of the season.

Johnson’s season ended last year with a wrist injury, but he could easily argue he is one of the most underpaid players in football. The 26-year-old is a major contributor in both the run and pass games, and he racked up more than 2,000 total yards from scrimmage in 2016. It makes sense that he is looking to get paid.
