Report: David Tepper moves ahead of Ben Navarro in Panthers’ bidding
There is reportedly a new frontrunner in the race to buy the Carolina Panthers.
According to ESPN’s David Newton, Sherman Financial Group founder Ben Navarro, previously considered the leading candidate to buy the Panthers, has been informed that the bidding is moving in another direction. That means David Tepper, minority owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the other leading candidate, is considered to have the edge now.
A source told Newton that an announcement could come early next week, and that Tepper was in Charlotte on Wednesday to meet with Panthers higher-ups.
“The process was not moving in his favor,” a source said of Navarro. “Therefore, there’s a reality he’s out of the process.”
Previous reports have indicated that the price of the Panthers will likely be a record. If it turns out to be Tepper, that likely rules out this interesting name being a part of things.
