Drake Maye had regrettable answer about playing in England

The Jacksonville Jaguars have played more games in England than any other NFL team, which has led to an international swell in their fanbase. On Sunday morning, they’ll take on quarterback Drake Maye and the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium.

Naturally, there will be more Jaguars fans in the stands than Patriots fans but on Friday afternoon, Maye made a case for the UK faithful to cheer on New England.

Perhaps more accurately, Maye attempted to make a case for the Patriots but in the end, did the exact opposite while also making a complete fool out of himself.

“First off, I think it comes with the team name, New England. I think it’s easy for UK fans to be attracted to that. Our colors are pretty sweet, they represent a lot of different things,” Maye said confidently. “And from there, I’m excited for the team, we’re going to come up, and we’ve got a lot of great seasons ahead. So shoutout to the fans that are already Patriots’ fans over here, and look forward to having some more.”

Oh my.

Maye earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from the University of North Carolina but apparently skipped any mandatory history courses. He also seems unaware of his own team’s history, which has never shied away from its revolutionary flavor.

“New England,” of course, was among the most prominent regions during the American Revolution, fighting against English rule. If there were a single NFL team that England fans should despise, based on historic events and connections, it would most certainly be Maye’s Patriots.

Like a bad interception, you have to believe Maye would like to have that answer back.
