The Jaguars have one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL in Blaine Gabbert, and he is fittingly surrounded by very little talent at the wide receiver positions. Tight end Marcedes Lewis leads the team with 415 receiving yards. Jacksonville could conceivably finish the year without a 500-yard receiver. You only need to average 30 yards per game to achieve that. The Jags can’t. It’s sad, and Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson knows it.
After his Falcons smashed the Jags 41-14 Thursday night, Robinson ripped into his opponent’s receiving core.
“Those guys couldn’t get a #*$king WR if it hit them in the head,” Robinson said, according to Charlie Bernstein. “They haven’t had anyone decent since Jimmy Smith. They had Matt Jones? Now, Chastin West? Those guys are #*%$ing jokes.”
Robinson’s comments may not be very sportsmanlike, but they’re true. Mike Thomas and Mike Sims-Walker have led them the last few years, and those guys aren’t very good. They haven’t had a 1,000-yard receiver since Jimmy Smith in 2005. They’ve struck out on first-round picks Matt Jones and Reggie Williams, and they desperately need a playmaker at the position. Cats like Chastin West and Taylor Price are not going to cut it for the Jags.
