Eddy Pineiro wins Bears’ kicking job
After an offseason of intrigue, the Chicago Bears have their kicker.
Coach Matt Nagy announced Sunday that Eddy Pineiro had won the Bears’ kicking job and will serve in that role to start the regular season.

23-year-old Pineiro has no NFL kicking experience, at least in the regular season. He went 8-of-9 on field goals and 3-of-4 on extra points during preseason. He seemed to have the job largely locked up by mid-August, by which point he was the lone kicker left on the team’s roster.
The Bears’ offseason kicker scramble was launched when Cody Parkey’s 43-yard attempt to win the NFC wild card game was blocked. That search turned controversial at times, but now it’s Pineiro’s job if he can keep it.
