Brock Purdy is getting a major contract from the San Francisco 49ers, and fans do not seem to think the deal was such a great one for the NFC West team.

Purdy and the Niners agreed to a 5-year, $265 million contract that includes $181 million guaranteed. Purdy’s annual average contract value of $53 million ties him with Jared Goff for seventh in the NFL.

Is Brock Purdy in the same category as Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert or Lamar Jackson? Those are all players making similar money. Most fans don’t think so, which is why there was a lot of internet laughing over the contract the 49ers quarterback received.

Though fans are still skeptical of the former Mr. Irrelevant, the 49ers are sold on their quarterback and did not want to lose him.

San Francisco made Purdy the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He saw significant playing time as a rookie after both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo got hurt, and he performed well. He put up 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns while leading the Niners to a 12-4 record in 2023, which was his first full season as a starter. Purdy only passed for 3,864 yards with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season as the Niners struggled to a 6-9 record in his 15 starts.

The 49ers and Purdy agreed to the contract extension prior to his final season under his 4-year rookie deal.
