Frank Gore had an opportunity to join the Raiders for their inaugural season in Las Vegas but chose to go to the East Coast instead.
Speaking this week with Jim Trotter of NFL.com, the veteran running back said that he had an offer from the Raiders but turned it down to sign with the New York Jets, in part because of his relationship with coach Adam Gase.
“I got an opportunity to get back with a good friend and a guy I respect, and I’m happy that he wanted me to be on his team,” said Gore. “And I’m happy to be around a guy who has done some great things in this league in Le’Veon Bell. That can motivate me. And I can help out the young kid that they just drafted, La’Mical Perine.”
Gore, a native of Miami, played for Gase on the Dolphins during the 2018 campaign. He will turn 37 this month and is entering his 16th NFL season.
Some questions may persist about Gore’s relationship with others on the Jets, but his relationship with Gase is apparently strong enough that he declined a seemingly enticing offer to play for Jon Gruden in Sin City.
