Friend on Johnny Manziel: ‘He knows he’s hit rock bottom’
Johnny Manziel may be having a hard time keeping his promise to remain sober, but that does not mean he is giving up on his NFL career.
While Manziel has continued to go out with friends and hit nightclubs in Hollywood seemingly every night, one of his friends tells Page Six that the 23-year-old has established a one-year plan for himself.
“He doesn’t want to sit at home in his hotel room,” the friend said. “He enjoys seeing his friends. Some of them are in nightlife and entertainment.
“He knows he’s hit rock bottom and he’s giving himself a year to get sober and get ready for football. He wants to play again. He really wants to turn things around and make people proud of him again. It’s not going to end this way. He really wants to make that effort. He knows what he’s gifted with … The spotlight got to him.”
Manziel was reportedly seen “drinking and dancing” after Drake’s concert at Madison Square Garden over the weekend. According to Page Six, Manziel is planning to spend much of the next year “doing yoga and working out with trainers as a part of his effort to clean up his act.”
But didn’t Manziel commit to a life of sobriety in July? It didn’t take him long to revise his plan in the name of partying.
Even if Manziel does somehow clean up his act, it’s unlikely that any NFL team would be interested in signing him. He continues to prove he is incapable of avoiding conflict, most recently when he got into a fight at a friend’s wedding in Hawaii. The road to recovery continues to get longer and longer for Johnny Football.
