Gardner Minshew downplays his intelligence despite high Wonderlic score
Gardner Minshew has quickly become one of the most interesting players in the NFL, and that isn’t only because he has been thrust into a starting role and has a tremendous mustache. The Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback is also extremely intelligent, though he doesn’t think we should be making a fuss about that.
Minshew scored a 42 on the Wonderlic test prior to the NFL Draft, which was the second-highest score among all QB prospects. For comparison, Harvard graduate Ryan Fitzpatrick had one of the highest Wonderlic scores of all time with a 48. However, Minshew doesn’t think that is enough for people to compare him to teammate and actual rocket scientist Joshua Dobbs.
And Gardner’s finale that had me HOWLING. A reporter asked if him & Josh Dobbs have the best IQ of any QB room in the NFL (Gardner had a high Wonderlic score):
“I’ve got a communications degree. I know all y’all know about it. I belong in this room more than that one.” pic.twitter.com/xDHdj29v8u

Dobbs has a degree in aerospace engineering from Tennessee. Studying aerospace engineering is just a tad more difficult than studying communications at most schools, so Minshew has a point. Still, he’s obviously a bright guy.
Minshew, a sixth-round pick out of Washington State, was solid when he came on for the injured Foles in last week’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He has also shown us he can take a monster hit in the NFL, so you could say he’s the whole package.
