New York Giants fans have been clamoring for the team to start rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart over Russell Wilson, and they will get their wish in Week 4.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll has informed the team that Dart will start against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Wilson will serve as the primary backup for the game.
Wilson has started all three games for the Giants this season, and the team is 0-3. The 10-time Pro Bowl selection lit up the stat sheet in a 40-37 overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2, finishing 30/41 for 450 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception. He did not play well in the other two games, with the Giants finding the end zone just once in the two contests combined.
Wilson was all but assured that he would enter the season as New York’s starting quarterback when he signed with the team in March. Daboll stuck to his word and only had Dart run a handful of plays through the first three games, but the former Ole Miss star will now take over the offense.
Giants fans made their preference very clear with a three-word chant during Sunday night’s loss to Kansas City.
Wilson has now been given chances to start with the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and Giants since the Seattle Seahawks moved on from him following the 2021 season. He fizzled out in all three spots, and it is possible the 36-year-old will not be able to land another starting job going forward.
