The New York Giants surprised a lot of people when they acquired an additional first-round draft pick on Thursday night and landed Jaxson Dart, but those who follow general manager Joe Schoen’s son should have seen the move coming.
Despite showing interest in Shedeur Sanders ahead of the draft, the Giants made the obvious choice by selecting former Penn State star Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall pick. They then acquired the 25th overall pick by trading a second-round pick, a third-round pick and a 2026 third-round pick to the Houston Texans.
The Giants used the 25th overall pick on former Ole Miss quarter Jaxson Dart.
Earlier on Thursday, Schoen’s son Carson shared a video of Dart on Instagram. Carson then set his profile to private after the post went viral.

Carson may have been privy to his father’s plans. The video also could have been the teenager’s way of expressing that he is a fan of Dart, which Giants fans might find significant.
Fans of “Hard Knocks” will recall a scene in the HBO series last year where Carson confidently told his father that the Giants should trade up in the draft to get Jayden Daniels. You can see the video here.
New York ended up drafting Malik Nabers, who already looks like an elite NFL wide receiver. Daniels has all the makings of a franchise quarterback and led the Washington Commanders to the NFC Championship Game.
Perhaps Carson got lucky last year when he talked up Daniels. But if Dart turns out to be a stud, that might be a sign that the youngster has a future in his dad’s line of work.
