Ex-Giants punter Steve Weatherford says Super Bowl ring was stolen from car
The New York Giants got the best of Tom Brady and the mighty New England Patriots twice in the Super Bowl, and former NFL punter Steve Weatherford played a role in the more recent of the two upset victories. Unfortunately, he no longer has the jewelry to show for it.
Weatherford revealed in an Instagram post on Tuesday that he had his Super Bowl XLVI ring stolen from his car recently. He explained that he gave the ring to his wife to hold onto after a speaking event, and she put it in her purse and left the purse in the car. The purse was stolen when several cars in Weatherford’s neighborhood were broken into. It sounds like his wife’s engagement ring was also stolen, as Weatherford said he has already purchased her a “replacement” ring with which she is very pleased.
Weatherford said he is hoping Giants owner John Mara will give him permission to have another Super Bowl ring made through Tiffany & Co. The 37-year-old says he has insurance and doesn’t mind paying for the ring, but he would need the team’s permission first. Weatherford also wished the thief or thieves well.
“Mr. Neighborhood Robber man, I hope you tried that ring on, I hope it brings favor to your life, the same way it has for other people the past 6.5 years I’ve had possession of it. It wasn’t my hand that won it, but I’d like your hand to wear it,” Weatherford wrote.
This is not the first time we have seen a player have his Super Bowl ring stolen, and hopefully Weatherford has the same luck DeMarcus Ware had with a similar situation a few years back.
