IK Enemkpali has a history that make his fight with Geno Smith much less surprising.
When he was in college at Louisiana Tech, Enemkpali was arrested for swinging at an off-duty police officer at a bar.
The incident took place in 2011 at a steak house in Ruston, La.
From a 2011 News-Star story:
“An off-duty Arcadia police officer was working security at the bar,” Williams said. He said a Lincoln Parish deputy was passing by and saw the officer arguing with Enemkpali outside the bar.
Williams said pepper spray had been used on Enemkpali, but he continued to fight with security. He said Enemkpali then swung and struck the officer.
Enemkpali had to be stunned with a Taser and was then taken into custody by the deputy. He was booked into Lincoln Parish Detention Center on charges of battery on a police officer and disturbing the peace.
Then Bulldogs head coach Sonny Dykes suspended Enemkpali after the incident. All of this led to an omniscient draft profile or Enemkpali, which talked about his scary punches. Though Enemkpali is now notorious for being the guy who broke Geno Smith’s jaw, some people do think he did the Jets a favor.
