The biggest hit of the NFL’s opening week may have been delivered by an offensive player.
The Jacksonville Jaguars had a strong showing in Week 1 that resulted in a 26-10 win over the Carolina Panthers at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. Liam Coen’s team had the game pretty much under wraps with just over two minutes remaining, but Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange kept his foot on the gas.
Jacksonville had a 3rd-and-4 in Carolina territory with the two-minute warning approaching. Tank Bigsby took a handoff, and Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig tried to come off the edge to stop the running back in the backfield.
Strange had other plans and absolutely destroyed Moehrig with a chip block.

Moehrig didn’t even see the block coming, which is why he nearly came out of his cleats. Strange, on the other hand, barely flinched. It looked like Moehrig ran directly into a brick wall with his head down.
We haven’t seen a block that ferocious since Abdul Carter was knocked down by a tight end during the preseason, though the New York Giants rookie responded to that play with some serious trash talk. Moehrig probably will not do much chirping after what Strange did to him.
