Jaguars decline fifth-year option on Leonard Fournette
Unsurprisingly, we have more evidence that Leonard Fournette is not in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ long-term plans.
As first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jaguars will decline the fifth-year option on Fournette’s rookie deal. That will make him a free agent after the 2020 season.
The Jaguars have been trying hard to trade Fournette, but thus far have not found any takers. While the running back had a productive 2019, he’s still been somewhat underwhelming, and is clearly not viewed as a long-term option in Jacksonville.
Add in the reported off-field issues Fournette has caused and it’s understandable why the Jaguars are eager to move on. It’s also understandable why nobody is making a deal for the running back right now, especially now that he’s in the final year of his contract.
