Report: NFC East team showing interest in Jameis Winston
Jameis Winston is recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL and receiving some interest ahead of NFL free agency.
The New Orleans Saints have interest in re-signing Winston ahead of the 2022 season. We also are learning that the Washington Commanders have shown interest in Winston.
Jordan Schultz reported Tuesday night that Washington has taken a long look at Winston.
#Commanders have taken a long look at Jameis Winston and continue to have interest in the former No. 1 overall pick, per a league source. I’m told not to rule out a return to the #Saints either for Winston, who’s progressing off a torn ACL.

Washington’s interest in Winston is understandable.
First off, the Commanders are desperate for a quarterback and have gone to great lengths to see if they could pry one loose. They were unsuccessful in their attempts to get Russell Wilson. Their defense is solid, but they badly need an upgrade at QB in order to compete in the winnable NFC East.
Many of Washington’s QB targets have been unrealistic. However, Winston is much more attainable. He isn’t a clear upgrade for many teams, so his market will be more limited.
Winston went 5-2 and passed for 1,170 yards and 14 touchdowns in seven starts last season for the Saints. Would he choose to leave New Orleans for Washington? Maybe if the price were right.
