Jay Gruden appears to be trending toward becoming the first NFL head coach to lose his job this season following yet another blowout loss on Sunday, but he says he plans to keep showing up to work until he is told not to.
After his team was blown out 33-7 at home by the New England Patriots, Gruden was asked if he has any thoughts on all the talk that the seat underneath him is getting warmer by the day. He had a great response.
Redskins coach Jay Gruden said no one in the organization has told him anything about his job. He said "if the key works Monday I'll keep working." He said he's been given ample opportunity to turn it around here. https://t.co/csvfJoBXLS

Gruden’s key may not work much longer. The Redskins have been a total disaster this season and are cycling through quarterbacks. It probably makes the most sense to give rookie Dwayne Haskins as many reps as possible given the circumstances, but Gruden appears to be grasping at straws in an attempt to save his job. He chose to start Colt McCoy on Sunday, and the veteran completed just 18-of-27 passes for 119 yards and an interception. He was sacked six times and fumbled twice, though he didn’t lose either.
Washington isn’t a playoff team with Haskins, McCoy or Case Keenum under center, but they need to start thinking about the future. Gruden’s reason for not committing to Haskins seems self-serving, and it could eventually cost him his job.
